AITA for Refusing to Share My Secret Cookie Recipe at the Office? AITA here..? I need some perspective on a situation that went down at my office, and I'm wondering if I'm being abit of a here.

So, for context.. I'm known in my workplace as the "cookie wizard." I've perfected a secret chocolate chip cookie recipe that my coworkers have been raving about for months. It's become a staple at our office events, and everyone always looks forward to it.

Now, we recently had a charity cake and cookie day, and as usual, I brought my famous. cookies. The thing is, one of my colleagues, let's call her Karen approached me with a big smile and asked for the recipe in front of everyone. I've always kept it a secret, partly for the fun and mystery, but mostly because I've spent years tweaking it to perfection. If I wanted to share it, I would have already!

I politely declined, explaining that it's a family secret and has sentimental value. Well, Karen didn't take it well. She called me selfish and accused me of ruining the spirit of sharing at this charity day.

The atmosphere got a bit tense, and other colleagues started taking sides. Some agreed with Karen, saying I should share the joy, while others defended my right to keep my recipe under wraps (as long as I continued baking and bringing in supplies every now & again)

Now, I'm sitting here wondering if I was too protective of my secret recipe or if Karen was out of line for putting me on the spot. AITA here? Should I have just spilled the beans and shared the cookie love? Or is it fair to keep my family recipe a secret? I'm genuinely torn, need advice Reddit. AITA?

PantherPony NTA you don't have to share recipe if you don't want to. You could always just give her a fake recipe.

johnnylongpants1 NTA. I would also be inclined not to make cookies anymore until I got a heartfelt apology. The moment people feel entitled to my help for free while also being ungrateful and calling. me selfish, then sorry I just decided I don't want to do this favor anymore.

I guarantee this person does not have something they have spent just as much time developing that they would give away as easily as they expect it. I'm a little awestruck at the audacity.

shellevanczik NTA! It's yours and it's important to you. I still make my former MIL's hot chicken salad. She trusted me with the recipe and I've never shared it, just make it every so often for friends. My ex and I haven't been together in 10 years, but I'd never divulge the recipe, ever. Stick to your principles.

NotThisAgain234 NTA. I would say that since having the cookies in the office without the recipe, which is non-negotiable, is causing so much upset and drama, I feel it would be in the best interests of team harmony to stop bringing in baked goods for the foreseeable future. Then sit back and watch your coworkers tell Karen to STFU.

© BeautifulPhanto... NTA, your recipe is your recipe. Karen is perfectly capable of using the recipe. on the back of the chocolate chips and start tweaking to make her own. Don't share the recipe.

Raerae1360 You need the Famous Amos or Mrs Field's cookie recipe to hand to her. Shrug when she says it's not as good as hers. But not nice to confront you at an event. She could have emailed you the request.

georgiajl38 What part of "secret" does Karen not understand? Ask the office. If the recipe being a secret is such a big deal, then maybe they'd prefer not to have the cookies at all.........

And every other item in their lives that involves proprietary information they should be prepared to give. up (iPhones, google, etc) NTA
